Paraje Altamira

The Calcareous Heart of Uco Valley Terroir

Paraje Altamira, nestled in the San Carlos district of Mendoza, is one of Argentina’s most studied and prestigious wine terroirs. Located within the alluvial fan of the Tunuyán River, its soils are rich in large, round calcareous stones and calcium carbonate. At 1,000–1,200 meters above sea level, the vineyards benefit from cool nights and wide thermal amplitude, conditions that enhance freshness and aromatic complexity. These demanding soils force the vines to struggle, resulting in Malbecs with vibrant natural acidity, fine chalky tannins, and a distinctive mineral texture.

Explore the wines of Paraje Altamira — the purest expression of Mendoza’s Uco Valley and the modern prestige of Argentine terroir.

Clop Wines:Boutique Mendoza Winery Experience

Clop Wines was born with the vision of crafting high-end wines, produced in limited quantities and under strict enological quality standards. Guided by this philosophy, brothers Gustavo and Rubén Clop decided to revive their family’s winemaking tradition, initiated decades ago by their great-grandfather José Clop and strengthened by their father, Don Eraclio Ricardo Clop.

With the same purpose that inspired previous generations, the project’s priority was to find the most suitable terroirs to produce Premium wines of great depth and unique character. The winery chose two of Mendoza’s most renowned wine-growing oases: Agrelo and Uco Valley, where the finest vines thrive and Malbec achieves its purest expression.

Today, Clop Wines honors its family legacy while sharing with the world wines that embody history, terroir, and excellence.

La Igriega winery building in Paraje Altamira, Mendoza – boutique producer of high-quality Malbec.

La Igriega: A Family Legacy Rooted in Paraje Altamira

LA IGRIEGA was born as a family project filled with dreams, journeys, and discoveries. Marcelo Goldberg, renowned for his career in the textile industry with brands like Vitamina and Uma, found in Paraje Altamira, Uco Valley (Mendoza) the perfect geography to build his family legacy. Today, his eldest son Nicolás carries forward that vision, expanding it for future generations.

More than ten years after its first steps, LA IGRIEGA has become a way of life: working the land with respect and dedication, and expressing in every bottle the identity of a unique place in the world.

The Estate
In 2006, Marcelo discovered the heart of Paraje Altamira, where only stones and meltwater from the Andes shaped the land. He planted 25 hectares of Malbec, and over the years LA IGRIEGA became a producer of high-quality grapes. Since 2011, the winery has crafted its own wines, each vintage reflecting the terroir’s character: freshness, minerality, and Mendoza’s authenticity.

Altos Las Hormigas – Mendoza winery founded by Alberto Antonini and Antonio Morescalchi, pioneers of Malbec terroir.

Altos Las Hormigas: Pioneers of Malbec and Mendoza Terroir

In 1995, Tuscan winemaker Alberto Antonini and young entrepreneur Antonio Morescalchi traveled to South America to explore wine regions. Crossing both sides of the Andes, they were deeply impressed by the high-altitude vineyards and desert climate of Mendoza, Argentina. Inspired by the region’s European winemaking heritage and the untapped potential of Malbec, they envisioned a project dedicated to this grape.

Against local advice, they founded a winery exclusively focused on Mendoza Malbec, convinced of its world-class potential. Thus, Altos Las Hormigas was born, guided by respect for the land, enological precision, and a vision to elevate Malbec to global prestige.

Our Name
The name “Altos Las Hormigas” dates back to 1996, when local ant colonies invaded the newly planted vineyards. Workers joked that the ants were the true owners of the land, and this idea became a symbol of hard work, patience, and teamwork. Today, the ant embodies the winery’s identity: humility, perseverance, and good fortune.
